The novel Ties that Bind, Ties that Break, by Lensy Namioka, is an engaging, brave, painful story about a girl who refuses to bind her feet even if it was a tradition in her family and also for her society. She not only didn’t want to look like her older sisters who are still young and got married in a too early age but she didn’t want to suffer the terrible pain of binding her feet too young and also getting married too young. Even though she had already found love, she knew she first had to study and have a career of her own.
