Though the Student Council existed due to great leadership of the 2008 graduates, the Council was replaced with other leadership opportunities afterwards. Below are the notes we made about the process.

Goals: What do we want to accomplish by starting a CSIA Student Council?
· Enhance the MS experience at CSIA by helping to foster a more positive atmosphere by allowing students more input into their educational & social experiences
· Practice democracy when applicable
· Improve student/staff communication by allowing students a forum for voicing their opinions
· Improve student behavior & responsibility
Responsibilities: What will we do if elected?
· Community service (ask kids what they’re already involved in)
· Represent classmates to teachers & staff
· Assist in positive discipline (Possible subcommittee jobs: i.e. Bucks Store, hall monitors)
· Help to plan fun events (dances, out-of-uniform days, local field trips)
Rules/Regulations/Guidelines
· Final Authority… teachers & principal
· Meetings: once a week, lunch and recess
· FOR NEXT YEAR- organize in the spring, set guidelines (academic strength- 2.0 or higher in last two marking periods? Disciplinary- no more than three 190’s resulting in ISS in the school year/Principal approval?)
· THIS YEAR-
o Any officer or representative can be removed from office by a vote, inclusive of Council, teachers and principal (reasons for vote may include discipline infractions, failure to attend meetings, unwillingness to perform Council responsibilities)
o 8th graders to campaign and be elected to officer position end of Sept./early Oct., elected by 7th & 8th only
o Dec.- 6th & 7th graders elect homeroom representatives to Council
Officers & Duties (You may run for only one elected office)
· President: To preside over meetings, and allow an orderly presentation of ideas and opinions. To assist the teachers in ensuring that all members of Council are fulfilling their responsibilities. With the Vice-President, communicate with Principal & CSIA staff, as well as any other communication needs that may arise.
· Vice-President: To inform student body of major Student Council activities and inspire their active participation in them. To communicate with CSIA staff along with the President. To take over for President if needed.

Secretary & Publicity positions to be held jointly by two people each. Those ‘second’ positions will be appointed by teachers, from candidates who are not elected by 7th & 8th graders to a position but still wish to serve on the Council.
· Liaison – 6th & 7th graders responsible for communicating their grade level’s specific needs to the Council, and reviewing that information with their classmates. (Voted into office by classmates in December)
